Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, moved to Tampa in 1956. Attended Plant High School. Graduated from the University of Florida in 1963 with a degree in Pharmacy. Practiced pharmacy for 2 years then went to Stetson University, College of Law. Graduated in 1969 from Stetson with a Juris Doctor degree. 1970 went to work with the State Attorney's Office as an assistant State Attorney in Hillsborough County.
