Before law school, I was going to be a Professor of Spanish Literature because I love books and learning about people and cultures. But a few things came up along my way into academia—kids. My oldest are twins and were born just before I finished as an undergraduate at BYU. My third was born when I was finishing up graduate school at Stanford. Number four came along part way through law school. I love being a father and I discovered that people are far more interesting than books. Being an attorney empowers me to help resolve problems.

Kari was born in the Tri-Cities to a farming family. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University in 2003 and her Juris Doctor degree from Gonzaga University School of Law in 2006. Kari is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Family Law Section of the Washington State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Benton-Franklin Bar Association.

Originally from Seattle, Wa., Ms. LaCoste attended Carnegie-Mellon University where she focused her studies on Political Science, International Relations and Chinese Language. During her undergraduate education, Ms. LaCoste studied abroad in Shanghai China, worked as a research assistant and teaching assistant for the international relations department of Carnegie-Mellon University, and worked in Washington D.C. as an opposing-party research intern.
